Our goal is to coordinate an ideal care assignment by matching sitter availability and skillsets to each family’s specific childcare need. In order to do this, it is very helpful to have as much advanced notice as possible. In the event that a last-minute sitter (same-day) request is submitted, we will do our very best to organize a sitter for your need; however, a confirmed sitter is not guaranteed and charges will include an urgent rate.
We do not operate sitter services in a physical location. We train our sitters through virtual and online platforms. Our services are provided on-site in your home.
Our nursing student sitters are employees and are provided competitive compensation for their meaningful work for our families. For this reason tips are not recommended, and sitters may not accept.

The rates for care assignments for multiple children are billed in such a way to offer a cost savings to families. For care assignments with multiple children, hourly rates for each child are not applied. Instead, we bill hourly for the youngest child we are caring for and then bill the additional child rate per our hourly rates.
We are pleased to offer a professional and trusted solution for childcare by both employing nursing students and providing professional mentorship and training. As a result, we offer competitive pay to our qualified sitters; however, we aim to balance that cost with your family's need for affordable child care.
To begin a care relationship with SITTERNEEDED™, you first select a membership option that best meets your family’s childcare needs. A longer-term membership provides a greater discount on the monthly cost. Then, pay only for the hours you use. Hourly rates for services are determined by the number and ages of children to be cared for during a care assignment. Please see the membership options and our hourly rates table for full details.
Rates for as needed requests from non-members are slightly higher. Please use our Contact Form to inquire about this option.
Our student nurse sitters observe the following precautions to help keep our families safe:
- adhering to mask protocols, social distancing and isolation guidelines as indicated by public health officials
- hand washing upon entry and throughout visit per usual infection prevention precautions (before/after eating and restroom use, etc.)
- leave shoes outside/entry and limit personal belongings (backpack, purse) brought into the home
- and additional family-specific requests
Our sitters are screened for fever and any other sick symptoms or exposure immediately prior to a family visit. If any concern is noted, an alternate sitter will be identified if possible and the family is notified immediately. For the safety of our sitters, please notify our office if any family members are sick, exposed to COVID-19 or is awaiting test results for COVID-19 prior to a scheduled visit.

All of our sitters must be a current nursing student in good standing at their respective universities/colleges. It is a condition of nursing programs that all students obtain the following prior to beginning nursing courses: background check, drug screening and CPR certification. It is this commitment to their professional training and to the community at large that sets nursing students apart as a premier choice in on-demand childcare. We require all documentation to be provided, and it is kept on file.
In addition, all applicants are interviewed using behavioral-based interviewing techniques, and a reference check is completed. Our commitment is to review and screen all applicants thoroughly to ensure we hire the highest quality candidates.
We are not currently registered as a respite care provider; however, this is an expanded service offering that we may add in the future.
